Crackpot Theories: The Doom That Came To Valyria
It was written that on the day of Doom every hill for 5 hundred miles had break up asunder to fill the air with ash and smoke and hearth, blazes so sizzling and hungry that even the dragons in the sky had been engulfed and consumed. Nice rents had opened in the earth, swallowing palaces, temples, whole towns. Lakes boiled or turned to acid, mountains burst, fiery fountains spewed molten rock a thousand ft into the air, pink clouds rained down dragonglass and the black blood of demons, and to the north the ground splintered and collapsed and fell in on itself and an offended sea came dashing in. The proudest metropolis in all the world was gone instantly, its fabled empire vanished in a day, the Lands of the Long Summer scorched and drowned and blighted.
An empire built on blood and fireplace. The Valyrians reaped stone island navy ghost ventile field jacket the seed they’d sown.
(From the Slaver’s Bay map of The Lands of Ice and Fireplace)
It wasn’t simply the Valyrian Peninsula that was affected, but an island off the coast submerged.
On the day the Doom got here to Valyria, it was stated, a wall of water three hundred ft high had descended on the island, drowning tons of of hundreds of males, ladies, and children, leaving none to inform the tale but some fisherfolk who had been at sea and a handful of Velosi spearmen posted in a stout stone tower on the island’s highest hill, who had seen the hills and valleys beneath them flip into a raging sea. Honest Velos with its palaces of cedar and pink marble had vanished in a heartbeat. On the north end of the island, the historic brick walls and stepped pyramids of the slaver port Ghozai had suffered the same destiny.
My first thought was Krakatoa, 1883.
Not only did the principle island of Krakatoa shattered into pieces, a distant coastal town called Merak (along with 100 others) was submerged in a tsunami.

The actual trigger for the eruption was debated for some time, and the concept sea water flooded into the magma chamber causing the explosion, was replaced by the speculation that sizzling magma blended with cold magma and prompted the eruption – each cases agree that the strain constructed up went ballistic.

Coming again to Valyria, it’s probably that the ring of volcanoes identified as the Fourteen Fires have been subjected to one thing very related, resulting in eruptions, earthquakes and full annihilation. The actual trigger that triggered this is unknown – it may have been the work of gods, sorcerers or nature’s fury. Or, it’s this crackpot concept.

The Faceless Men orchestrated the Doom of Valyria
The Kindly Man’s narrative of the first Faceless Man (emphasis mine):
“Burnt and blackened corpses were oft found in shafts where the rocks were cracked or filled with holes. But still the mines drove deeper. Slaves perished by the rating, but their masters did not care. Red gold and yellow gold and silver had been reckoned to be extra valuable than the lives of slaves, for slaves had been cheap in the old Freehold. During conflict, the Valyrians took them by the thousands. In times of peace they bred them, though solely the worst were despatched down to die within the purple darkness.”
“Didn’t the slaves rise up and struggle ”
“Some did,” he said. “Revolts had been frequent within the mines, however few accomplished much. The dragonlords of the previous Freehold have been strong stone island navy ghost ventile field jacket in sorcery, and lesser males defied them at their peril. The primary Faceless Man was one who did.”
“Who was he ” Arya blurted, before she stopped to think.
“No one,” he answered. “Some say he was a slave himself. Others insist he was a freeholder’s son, born of noble inventory. Some will even inform you he was an overseer who took pity on his charges. The truth is, nobody knows. Whoever he was, he moved amongst the slaves and would hear them at their prayers. Men of a hundred completely different nations labored in the mines, and every prayed to his personal god in his personal tongue, but all have been praying for the same thing. It was launch they requested for, an end to pain. A small factor, and easy. But their gods made no reply, and their suffering went on. Are their gods all deaf he wondered… till a realization got here upon him, one night within the pink darkness.
“All gods have their devices, men and women who serve them and help to work their will on earth. The slaves weren’t crying out to a hundred completely different gods, because it appeared, however to one god with a hundred totally different faces… and he was that god’s instrument. That very night he selected probably the most wretched of the slaves, the one who had prayed most earnestly for launch, and freed him from his bondage. The first present had been given.”
Arya drew again from him. “He killed the slave ” That didn’t sound right. “He should have killed the masters!”
“He would deliver the gift to them as well… however that may be a tale for another day, one finest shared with no one.”
It seems possible that the Faceless Males (He gathered extra slaves to his trigger as he answered their prayers to kill others and asked their service as payment.) have been by some means chargeable for triggering the volcanic eruption.
They may have tunneled by way of the various chambers beneath the Fourteen Fires, and made the sea water seep inside, slowly building up the strain and making the volcanoes explode. At least one among them escaped to Braavos and establish the Order, later constructing the Home of Black and White.
While we’re in crackpot theories, there’s the chance that this set off took a really long time to return to fruition, and during that time the first Faceless Man needed to spare his household from the destruction and asked them to flee. The first Faceless Man could have been a Targaryen. Valar Morghulis.
