The 5 Best Coastal Drives In the world
These are the form of drives you plan trips round — from Australia’s Nice Ocean Highway to California’s Highway 1.
1. Oregon Coast Highway a hundred and one
Some of the well-known landmarks on the Oregon coast is Haystack Rock, ceaselessly referred to as Goonies Rock, because of its appearance at the tip of the 1981 kidventure flick The Goonies. The sea stack rises 235 toes above sea degree, and is a visible beacon along Oregon’s Freeway a hundred and stone island 3686942 one calling you to Cannon Seaside.
Wind your manner two hours’ south of Cannon Beach (stopping on the Tillamook cheese manufacturing facility for picnic fixings alongside the best way) to Cape Kiwanda at Pacific Metropolis, one of the factors on the Three Capes Scenic Route. (Cape Meres can also be notable for its cute-but-squat lighthouse and plenty of-limbed Octopus Tree.)

2. California’s Highway 1
– Carmel-by-the-Sea for the 17-Mile Drive and tasty Mediterranean food at Dametra Cafe.
– Cambria, for Hearst Castle and the zebras (extra on that in a second).
– San Luis Obispo, “America’s happiest city,” for smoked salmon and a glass of wine at Koberl at Blue.
– Santa Barbara, to walk round its charming downtown.
– Malibu, to really feel like a true California seaside bum.
One of our favorite turnoffs in Big Sur is Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. Park your automotive and stroll lower than half a mile to McWay Falls, an eighty-foot waterfall that gushes all yr lengthy.
After Huge Sur comes Freeway 1’s notorious hairpin curves and blind corners, which you will white-knuckle at 20 mph…till one thing in you caves, your grip on the wheel loosens, and you begin to have enjoyable, taking each turn with a whoop.
3. Street to Hana, Maui, Hawaii
The Highway to Hana — or the Hana Freeway, connecting Kahului to Hana in east Maui — is more than 50 miles of turquoise surf, bamboo forests, crimson ochre hills, waterfalls, and lush rainforest alongside Maui’s North Shore.

Not included within the brochure: The street is daunting and takes three hours to journey, at the very least. From the sky, it appears to be like like Hana Highway was carved into Maui by a large–operating his finger alongside the island’s curves like it’s icing on a cake.
4. Causeway Coastal Route, Northern Eire
Northern Ireland’s Causeway Coastal Route hasn’t gotten the form of press that, say, Highway 1 in California has obtained — partly as a result of Belfast and beyond have been off limits to vacationers for therefore lengthy. However it is gorgeous: To the left of the winding, slim highway are excessive plateaus marked by hedges in orderly rows, and sloping hills dotted with stone cottages and sheep in various shades of white, grey, and tan. Destinations roll by referred stone island 3686942 to as Ballygally and Ballycastle and Larrybane, all sounding like teasing nicknames for stomachaches and herbs for overcoming ordinariness.
However with the arrival of the game of Thrones production team in tiny harbor towns like Ballintoy, pictured here, the Causeway Coastal Route now caters to Obtained followers with its own Game of Thrones road journey.
Fun fact: Ballintoy stands in as the harbor of the Iron Islands.
